Faith and spirituality are central to many people’s lives, especially in times of crisis. Yet, therapists often feel unsure about navigating spiritual topics in session.
Cultural humility allows therapists to approach faith without judgment or agenda. It involves asking open-ended questions like, “What role does your spirituality play in your healing?”
For clients, being able to speak openly about faith can be profoundly validating. Ignoring this aspect may cause disconnect or even distrust.
Therapists don’t need to share the same beliefs—they just need to hold space for them. That act of humility can foster connection and deepen the therapeutic alliance.
